The Return of the Gangsta

Yo, so I just got my copy of Big Boi's new CD, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. It's Hot. Features dope appearances by T.I., Janelle Monae, B.O.B., Yelawolf and Gucci Mane amongst others. I was sort of turned off by Yelawolf's spot. I'm thinking it might grow on me though. Ole' Yela is the real shit if you don't know him yet. Check him out.

Thank God I Went To See Passion Pit

After working all weekend, not getting much sleep and watching an over-saddend love story in The Time Traveler's Wife, the option to run down the road to First Ave and catch Passion Pit seemed like more of an annoyance than a fantasitic evening. Having to find parking downtown, making sure I talk to the right door people, coming late and not getting a good view and hanging out with Sunday Funday Drunks all seemed like justifiable reasons not to go see the show and rest my tired ass at home. But the fear of regret proved to be persuasive. I applaud its effort.

Parking was a breeze, I was welcomed at the door, I found an excellent spot along the rail on the second floor (douchebag free) and didn't miss a single song. They ended their set with "Little Secrets" (Favorite) and ended the encore with "Sleepyhead" (Favorite). They even did a cover of "Dreams" by The Cranberries. It made me smile.

To make the evening even better, a First Ave tribute video was shown before the show celebrating The Legendary Venue's 40th Birthday. Video included Shot Outs and birthday wishes to First Ave by the likes of Solid Gold (from the road), Craig Finn from the Hold Steady, P.O.S. (in the airport), Slug, Mason Jennings, El Vez and Brother Ali. Tapes 'n' Tapes sang a birthday song.

Now for the Camera

Minneapolis Woman File-Sharing Trial Set

Jammie Thomas-Rassett, the Minneapolis woman whom has been charged with illegal downloading and file-sharing through the use of KazAa, is scheduled for to stand before trial for the Third time, October 4th, 2010. Thomas-Rasset has been found guilty twice now of using the Peer-to-Peer network to illegally download and share music. She originally was sentenced to pay $9,250 per work (24 Counts), totalling $222,000. After appeal, She again was found guilty and instead was sentenced to pay $80,000 per infringed work, totalling $1.92 Million! Judge Michael Davis found that the sum awarded by the second jury was "monstrous and shocking" and is proposing the maximum amount the jury could award would be $2,250, totalling $54,000.

The Labels included in the case, had offered a settlement of $25,000 to be donated to a major charity this past January. Thomas-Rasset declined. Her Attorney stated that Thomas-Rasset would not accept an offer "that requires her to pay monies to or on behalf of the Plaintiffs."

Fire Breaks Out Before Lil Wayne Hearing

Lil' Wayne was set to be sentenced today at Manhattan's Criminal Court until a fire broke out in the basement of the Criminal Court building. Looks like they needed to call... the Fireman, uh, the Fireman, yeah.

Strictly Sexual

Watched Strictly Sexual on Hulu.com last night. Funny film. Corny at times but overall, delightful. Movie stars Johann Urb as Joe, whom you may recognize from Entourage where he played Johnny Drama's favorite Masseuse, Ken... or you recognize him from 2012. Check it out

See it at Hulu.com. The Embed code doesn't fit within my house.

The gut who plays Stanny, Stevie Long, is an actual Hollywood writer. He's a credited for doing the story for Starsky & Hutch (2004)

Injustice in Italy

This is crazy. In 2006, a video was uploaded to Google Video by students in Turin, Italy. The video showed them bullying an autistic kid. Google took the video down as soon as they were notified of it's existence. Google then notified the Italian Police and the student responsible for uploading the video was sentenced for 10 months community service. A punishment that fits the crime. Case-closed, right? Yeah, until a public prosecutor decided to indict four Google employees on counts of defamation and failure to comply with the Italian code of privacy. All four were found not guilty on the counts of defamation, but three of the four were charged with failure to comply with Italian Privacy law. Read Google's statement here.

This is a Big decision! If the employees of Internet hosting platforms can be found liable for what everyday citizens upload and post onto the Web, we may find many innocent people going to jail/paying fines/picking up trash on the side of the road. I don't think that is fair and hopefully this ruling, which is being appealed, gets overturned. Think about it.... I throw a rock at you, film it and put it on YouTube, where your best friend just happens to work. YouTube finds it, deems it inappropriate and takes it down. Then, not only do I get in trouble for posting the video but your best friend does too. Does that make any logical sense? I'm curious to know on what grounds the Google employees failed to comply with the Italian Privacy Code. What do you Think?

Back Online

So... you may have noticed that I haven't posted anything in the last week or two. Let me explain... My ancient/prehistoric/long-time trusty friend laptop has finally come to the end of the road. I will miss all the headaches it has created for me and the extensive troubleshooting lessons it has taught me. I have found a replacement which as of today, is Back Online! So big-ups to the family that sold me my new desktop Gateway for $150, and included a new hard drive for free after the originally installed one died.

On top of that, I fucked up my ankle playing Ball. Check it out!

Beleive it or not, my ankle is actually looking better

Is This The Future Of Music?

Spotify. Born in Sweden by Daniel Ek. It's an application, like iTunes, that you download and install and then begin searching. You can find millions of songs by millions of artists. All for Free. I got the chance to use it first hand a few months back when I was hanging out with two Swedish Foreign Exchange Students. It's sweet. Just search an artist or song and BAM! there it is. The catch is, you don't actually own the song. You are not able to sync your ipod and take your songs on a run. But it's still cool. It finds Everything. Currently, Spotify is only available to IP addresses assigned to Sweden, Spain, Norway, Finland, The UK and France. Ek is trying to bring the service stateside but is receiving skepticism from the U.S. Music Industry. This could take some business away from iTunes. Spotify does sell tracks and offers a premium service in which you are able to keep the songs. iTunes has its own revolution though. It's hard to believe iTunes will be going away.
